Asase Yaa

Asase Yaa

Asase Yaa is a Brooklyn-based cultural organization founded by brothers Kofi Osei Williams and Yao Ababio, who transformed their shared childhood love of African dance and drumming into a thriving performing arts institution. What began as community workshops in the ’90s quickly grew into summer camps, schools, and electrifying stage productions. Joined by Kofi’s wife, Rubie, and an international roster of artists from Africa and the Caribbean to Broadway, Asase Yaa created an accessible, intergenerational platform that blends education, performance, and heritage.

Their mission: to preserve and celebrate the cultural legacy of Africa, showcasing the continent’s breathtaking diversity. Through the Asase Yaa African American Dance Theater and the Asase Yaa School of the Arts, they’ve inspired a new generation of performers. In addition to teaching African and African Diasporic Dance, Asase Yaa serves the community by teaching martial arts, musical instrument performance, musical theater and acting.
