Nick Hempton’s saxophone playing delivers swing, grit, and undeniable energy. His command of the organ band tradition brings a similar same drive and soul. Originally from Sydney, Australia, he learned jazz through late-night jam sessions and club gigs before moving to New York City in 2004. Since then, he has become a standout presence on the city’s jazz scene, leading bands at major venues and festivals around the world. His music draws inspiration from Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, and Cannonball Adderley, mixed with the rhythm and blues and ska sounds of his early years. Hempton has released several acclaimed albums and earned a reputation as a dynamic frontman with a bold tone and unstoppable groove.
