Craig Handy has been a force in the New York jazz scene since the mid-1980s. A saxophonist, flutist, composer, arranger, educator, and bandleader, he has performed with an extraordinary range of jazz greats including Herbie Hancock, Roy Haynes, Betty Carter, Eddie Palmieri, and Elvin Jones. He has recorded extensively as both a sideman and leader, releasing five albums under his own name. Handy also appeared as Coleman Hawkins in Kansas City and performed the featured solos for The Cosby Show theme music. His sound reflects a love of jazz tradition, New Orleans roots, and musical influences from Latin and Caribbean cultures.
