A multidisciplinary artist originally from Mexico and now based in NYC, Melissa Almaguer is redefining tap as a vehicle for healing and artistic expression. With appearances at The Jazz Gallery, The Joyce Theater, and Lincoln Center, her work fuses movement, sound, and ritual into hypnotic performances.
Whether collaborating with Moor Mother and Irreversible Entanglements or leading her own collectives (like praesēns and Angel of Water/Angel of Air), Almaguer blurs the line between music and dance. She also teaches at Steps on Broadway, nurturing the next generation of expressive movers.
